👉 Background: Seven West Media is an ASX-listed media company which owns the Seven Network (ie Australia's second largest commercial TV network).

👉 What happened: Now, they have signed a multi-year content deal with NBCUniversal, the gigantic US content powerhouse. This means Seven will have access to all NBC’s shows like Below Deck, Real Housewives of Miami AND Dubai and a whole bunch of other trashy shows.

👉 What else: Many of these shows are only available on NBC's Peacock streaming service - but now they will form part of a new channel called 7 Bravo.

What's the key learning?

💡The line between content for streaming services and free-to-air is becoming thinner and thinner. Case in point: A large chunk of content sold to Seven West Media has been produced exclusively for NBC’s streaming service Peacock - but it will be on free-to-air TV here in Australia.

💡NBC aren’t the only ones to sell their exclusive, streaming content to other platforms. Netflix used to create, original content that was exclusive to its platform. But now, we’re starting to see Netflix put some of its movies in theatres - even during its exclusive windows.

💡 And with so much content being sold between streaming platforms, free-to-air and even theatres, it’s becoming harder to distinguish between these services.
