Move over M from James Bond and X because Amazon has joined the AI chatbot bandwagon with its new toy 'Q'

Amazon has just launched its own AI chatbot called Amazon Q.

What's the key learning?

  • Amazon Q is designed to help companies improve operations and customer experiences and considered to be a step towards artificial general intelligence.
  • These rapid developments in AI have got people questioning whether the 'race' to win AI may come at a cost.
  • The biggest companies are investing billions into winning the AI race, and that can mean less focus on safety of new features and more focus on speed of releasing new features.

👉 Background: Amazon is the everything store. You've got:

  • E-commerce - Amazon Marketplace
  • Cloud computing - Amazon Web Services
  • Digital streaming - Amazon Prime Video and Music

👉 What happened: Amazon has just launched their own AI chatbot called Amazon Q. It's designed specifically for companies to help them improve operations and customer experiences. And, it's considered to be a step towards artificial general intelligence, aka human level intelligence.

👉 What else: Amazon has joined Microsoft, Google, and Meta at the AI table. But, these rapid developments in AI have got people questioning whether the 'race' to win AI may come at a cost.

What's the key learning?

💡The race to the top of AI may actually become a race to the bottom—in terms of safety.

💡Right now, the biggest companies are investing billions into winning the AI race. And, that can mean less focus on safety of new features and more focus on speed of releasing new features, which may not be properly or appropriately tested.

💡Sam Altman was allegedly fired from OpenAI because he wasn't focused enough on the risks of the technology. So, it seems like AI companies are either going to have to introduce stronger self-regulation or the regulators are going to have to step up and keep up.
