Airbnb is partnering with building owners and landlords.
👉 Background: Airbnb was launched in 2008 and was originally named AirBedandBreakfast.com. Over the last 14 years, Airbnb has become quite the short-term rental monopoly.
👉 What happened: Now, Airbnb is partnering with building owners and landlords to enhance the number of rentable rooms on Airbnb - essentially allowing tenants to sub-lease their place.
👉 What else: In the past, landlords haven't been too keen on this short-term sub-lease. But now, landlords can can take up to 25% of the rental host's booking under this arrangement, which started in the US but it could roll out around the world soon.
💡In Australia, and in many countries around the world, home ownership has become more and more challenging in recent years. But renting has become pretty darn expensive too.
💡While the idea of earning extra income through Airbnb rentals has always been appealing to tenants, the problem has been the landlords' opposition to short-term rentals (ya know, those wild Airbnb house parties are every landlord's worst nightmare).
💡But Airbnb has found a new formula to get landlords back on side. This means Airbnb can boost apartment listings, get more bookings and bring in more moula.
