BP and Hertz are collabing to help us get more miles in electric vehicles... and not stuck in the outback

BP wants to scale the electric charging stations up faster... so it's teaming up with Hertz.

What's the key learning?

  • BP has been growing its electric-charging unit named BP Pulse and it wants to help drivers get from point A to point B.
  • BP's goal is to operate more than 100,000 charging stations by 2030 so it partnered up with Hertz to scale the electric charging stations up even faster.
  • EV demand is higher in Australia than ever but certain barriers are still affecting the transition.

👉 Background: Over the last few years, BP, the global oil and gas company, has been growing its electric-charging unit named BP Pulse.

👉 What happened: BP wants to help drivers get from point A to point B. Period. If you’re not using a BP service station to fill up your petrol-guzzling car, BP Pulse wll provide the electric juice for an EV instead. It’s goal is to be operating more than 100,000 charging stations by 2030.

👉 What else: That’s a LOT more than its nearly 19,000 service stations right now. Now, BP is hoping that by partnering with Hertz, they’ll be able to scale the electric charging stations up even faster. While this partnership is kicking off in the US, it’s hoping to go worldwide too.

What's the key learning?

💡EV demand is higher than ever, but there are two major barriers that are still affecting the transition:

  1. EV companies just can’t produce enough cars for the demand
  2. The fear of being stuck in the middle of nowhere without charge

💡In fact, customers in Australia are put on 6 month+ waitlists in order to get their hands on a green vehicle. When Hyundai released 109 electric SUVs…they sold out in 6 minutes, with another 18,000 Aussies on the waitlist.

💡While BP isn’t in the business of manufacturing electric vehicles, it does see itself as a major solution to the charging station barrier.
